Wed, 29 Jul 2009 22:30:52 -0700 WTF!!! Landlord sues tenant over Tweet...Really? http://aarond.posterous.com/wtf-landlord-sues-tenant-over-tweetreally http://aarond.posterous.com/wtf-landlord-sues-tenant-over-tweetreally

I may be late to the party on this one, but this story (WSJ Blog - The Shortest Allegedly Defamatory Statement in History?) from this morning caught my attention about a landlord in Chicago suing a tenant over a tweet that they are claiming was defamatory and damaged the landlord’s reputation. In my opinion this is just ridiculous. Can someone really claim that a single tweet did significant enough damage to call it defamatory and seek damages in a court of law. I am not a legal expert by any means, but a case of this nature seems to raise some interesting questions on how our legal system will look at and consider highly open and highly public Web based communications vehicles such as Twitter, Facebook, YouTube and blogs, etc. in legal proceedings. Seems we may be opening up a Pandora’s Box that our legal system may not be ready to deal with.

This case also begs the question, do complaints by consumers on Twitter or Facebook or on a personal blog give companies the right to seek legal damages and sue their customers? Not something I recommend, but seems this case is setting that precedent. Does it mean that United Airlines should sue Dave Carroll for his hit YouTube video – United Breaks Guitars? That video could be seen as defamatory and it definitely damaged United’s brand and reputation and it seems he has no intention of stopping either. United is just one example, but I see hundreds of complaints by people within social media communities everyday complaining about companies and their products and services or making not so kind statements about other people. Seems this case might open up a whole new world of everyone wanting to sue everyone for something. Haven’t we seen this before? But again I am not a legal professional and this is just my opinion.

It is definitely changing the definition of “Everything you say can and will be used against you in a court of law.”

Careful with your comments or how you respond, if it offends me, I might sue you :)

Sat, 25 Jul 2009 15:37:00 -0700 Birthday party at Little Buckaroo Ranch - July 25th http://aarond.posterous.com/birthday-party-at-little-buckaroo-ranch-july http://aarond.posterous.com/birthday-party-at-little-buckaroo-ranch-july

Olivia and I went to Jackson Connor's 3rd birthday party today at the Little Buckaroo Ranch. The kids had so much fun feeding the goats, petting the rabbit, getting fish kisses on their fingers, watering the miniature horses and of course riding the pony. The Little Buckaroo Ranch really is a great place for kids parties and they take such good care of the kids and parents. Check it out if you have never been – http://www.littlebuckarooranch.com. Some pictures included.

Tue, 21 Jul 2009 20:11:00 -0700 Reflecting on Mistakes Made http://aarond.posterous.com/reflecting-on-mistakes-made http://aarond.posterous.com/reflecting-on-mistakes-made

I have just wrapped up an amazing 5 days with Olivia and now I sit here reflecting on life and the mistakes I have made. Some mistakes have led to great things in my life and others have not had such a positive impact. I know what you are all going to say, we must learn from our mistakes to make ourselves better and stronger people. That is true, but this is more reflection on why I made those mistakes in the first place. What is it that drove me to be so ignorant and stupid. I am not a stupid person, but my list of mistakes is stupid, idiotic and I have no idea why I have made them. Many of them have shaped parts of my life and many of them I have tried to forget and hide away. That is probably my biggest mistake of all. The time has come to just deal with it all in order to make it to the next level in my life, not to have these mistakes lingering in the background. The biggest question that haunts my mind as I reflect on these mistakes is if I am a bad person. I do not see myself as a bad person and I hope others do not, but some of my mistakes speak to a different person, one that is not me. I know I will not get all the answers I need tonight, but my mind is swirling and yes I am beating myself up about it all. I will get through this and this list of mistakes, will make me a better, stronger person in the long run, but for today they are making me weak. I know it will all work out, it always does, but for today I will reflect and try to learn some valuable lessons.

After more than 20 days straight of 100+ degree temperatures, it looks like we might get a little relief. Never thought I would be looking forward to a 95 degree day as a break from the heat, but it will be welcome. Hopefully we get some of the rain as well. We need it badly.

Olivia and I joined the Cahoons (Laura Beck's family) this morning for the annual Allendale neighborhood July 4th parade. Olivia joined Thea and other Olivia for a bike ride in the parade. They all had a blast and we ended the parade with Amy's Ice Cream and other 4th of July treats. Good to see communities still coming together to celebrate and enjoy the 4th of July holiday. I believe this is the 60th annual parade. Fireworks tonight. Happy 4th of July!!!

Thu, 02 Jul 2009 21:14:08 -0700 If you have not eaten at Garrido's, I highly recommend it http://aarond.posterous.com/if-you-have-not-eaten-at-garridos-i-highly-re http://aarond.posterous.com/if-you-have-not-eaten-at-garridos-i-highly-re
Had a great lunch with @laurabeck and @mattmcginnis today at one of Austin's newest establishments, Garrido's. Austin's newest taqueria was started by chef David Garrido, who was head chef at Jeffrey's. The food was amazing and it was great to catch up with an old colleague and enjoy lunch out of the office on a beautiful Austin day. The food at Garrido's was amazing. Very fresh and light and the sauces were awesome. I had the crispy pork carnitas tacos with pickled onions and habanero salsa and it was fabulous. The location is also great at 3rd and Nueces (across from the Austin Music Hall) with a great indoor seating area and a wonderful patio next to a beautiful green space. And not to mention the menu prices are very reasonable. Based on my first visit I give Garrido's an A+ on all levels - food, service and ambiance. Will definitely be an Austin gem, hopefully not hidden. Read a full, professional review from Austin360.com

Thu, 02 Jul 2009 20:13:00 -0700 Great Wednesday Night in ATX - DEMO Meet up @Lanai, John Erik Send off @Molotov http://aarond.posterous.com/great-wednesday-night-in-atx-demo-meet-up-lan http://aarond.posterous.com/great-wednesday-night-in-atx-demo-meet-up-lan

Had a fun Wednesday night with our friends Chris Shipley and Matt Marshall from DEMO in town for a meet up and to talk to local start-ups at Lanai and then we were off to Molotov to wish John Erik the best of luck on his journey over to China to help start China's first co-working facility, 88 Spaces. It was great to catch up with old friends and colleagues and make new friends as well. It was definitely a fun night that ended with a late night meal at Magnolia Cafe No pics from there, but the tacos were amazing.

Sun, 28 Jun 2009 16:41:10 -0700 Our new pet ladybug http://aarond.posterous.com/our-new-pet-ladybug http://aarond.posterous.com/our-new-pet-ladybug

My daughter found a ladybug floating in the pool today and she went absolutely crazy for it. Took it out of the pool, put it on her towel and kept checking on it to make sure it was OK like every 5 minutes. She was so excited about the ladybug that we have now brought it home and it is living in a cup with leaves, strawberries and blueberries. She even wanted to feed it some turkey. I had to stop her on that one. Hopefully it survives at least a few days. Do not want her to get sad!!!

Sat, 27 Jun 2009 07:49:00 -0700 My little fish http://aarond.posterous.com/my-little-fish http://aarond.posterous.com/my-little-fish

It is hard to believe a little less than 3 weeks ago, my little Olivia did not know how to swim, but now she is turning into a little fish. She is all over the pool swimming from end to end, jumping off the steps, putting her head under water and floating on her back. Yes, she still uses the water wings, but she is really getting the hang of it and learning to use both her arms and legs. She is going to be a great swimmer by the end of the summer.  I am having so much fun learning with her and being there to help her. I am so proud of her and it is so much fun. Here are some pictures from our swim time yesterday. Enjoy.

Because I am looking forward to taking her to the pool to continue the swimming lessons and to cool off in this f’ing heat we are having. If she did not listen, then I have to cancel swimming and I hate to do that for her sake and mine, because it is another day in the 100s and does not look to be cooling off anytime soon. Love the Texas summers but come on now ease us into it, not throw us smack into the middle of hell starting day 1.
